School Mark Bronze Award

Our photogrpah shows Sam and Luke, two of our Bike Bugs, accompanied by Mrs Harrington, receiving the award from the mayor, Councillor Richard Mantle.

We are delighted to announce that, in recognition of our efforts to promote cycling as an enjoyable, sustainable and healthy means of travel, we have become one of the first schools in the country to be awarded the Bike It School Mark Bronze Award.

We would like to thank our Bike It officer, Gayle Rowson, for all her support and our school Bike It champions, Teresa O'Brien and Cecilia Harrington. Most of all, we would like to thank the children and their families for taking part so enthusiastically in all the Bike It activities, and especially the increasing numbers of children who are now cycling to school regularly. Finally, we would like to thank our team of Bike Bugs, who help us to run all the various activities so well.

We will now start work on achieving the Silver Award. You can find more details about the School Mark Awards by clicking on the logo below.

Bike It News

At St Anne's we are committed to promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy way of travelling to and from school. Click here to read our school cycling policy. We aim to have 15% of children cycling at least once or twice a week by the end of this school year.

Each term we arrange a number of exciting events, each designed to encourage children (and their parents) to cycle more frequently. The most recent of these was a 'Cycle to Santa' competition held in the final few weeks of the Autumn Term. Every time a child cycled to school he or she earned a raffle ticket, all of which were entered into a prize draw. We were incredibly impressed by how many children rose to the challenge of cycling in spite of the cold and wet weather; several children cycled almost every single day!

On the last day of term, Gayle Rowson, our Bike It Officer, joined us for a special assembly when all the winning tickets were drawn. Several children won prizes ranging from helmets to cycle computers. However, the main prize - a fantastic new mountain bike - was won by Yoko in St Anthony's. We look forward to seeing her riding this when she is a bit bigger.
