The children in St. Patrick’s class had a very enjoyable feast day on March 17th. The day started with a liturgy, led by the children and attended by St George’s, St Francis’s, St Anthony’s classes and parents. A number of St. Patrick’s children then performed some Irish Dancing very well and we were then treated to a display by Year 6 girls. At the end of the Liturgy Mrs Hargrave said “It is always lovely to see my old class and how much they have grown in confidence since they have been in Year 1”.
During the course of the morning the children took part in a number of different activities such as making cards, Celtic crosses and shamrocks, and creating leprechauns from play dough, icing St. Patrick’s cakes and tasting some Irish bread and cake.
In the afternoon we held a party. We played a few games including Irish musical statues (Irish Dancing) and Irish bingo. At the end of the afternoon we ate our cakes and a few crisps and biscuits. It was an enjoyable day and hopefully we all know a little more about St. Patrick and life in Ireland.
This is what the children said about the day:
“I enjoyed moving to the words and music of St. Patrick’s Prayer” (Beth)
“I liked icing the cakes and tasting the Irish food” (Joe)
“I liked wearing my own clothes” (Jamie)
“I enjoyed doing all the different things” (Maddie)
